Children's Magic is a special aspect of the living room magic and is meant to entertain children. Usually done at birthday parties, church, preschool, elementary school, Sunday School or library. Often the only kind of magic that most Westerners experience besides being seen on television. This type of magic is usually comedic.
Differences must be made between children's magic and "young magicians." The first is intended for audiences who are mostly made up of children while the latter refers to minors. The later has an organization dedicated to them including the Society of Young Magicians, Magic Youth International and Young Magicians' Club.
Not all magicians are interested in performing for children both artistically and in terms of patience. When Br. John Hamman, sm, was honored in 1995 during Louis's First Cultural Heritage Award, he explained in his key acceptance speech for a successful magic show:
"The magic object is misdirection.The audience is more likely to believe what they hear than what they see, and the smart people are the easiest to fool because they do not expect me to use some childish tricks to deceive them, on the other hand, children are hard to fool, because they watch closely and do not listen . "(bold added)
Since children do not have the social filters that adults have in such situations, they have no compromise to show any errors or inconsistencies the magician makes during his performance. This makes appearing for children very difficult.
Children of magicians often use certain steps when performing for children. Some players use their knowledge to deliberately mislead the children in a given audience. One form of this type of apostasy is called a "Witch-in-Tension" in which a player pretends to have made a mistake.
The style used for children's magic is often funny and often uses large and colorful props. Not infrequently the magicians dressed like a clown or in wild and strange costume while performing.
Generally, child magicians are reluctant to use tricks that focus on the use of playing cards, but magic with coins (see coin magic) or paper money is often popular among children. Movements and actions are preferred for patter. Buffoonery is a better vehicle than "mystery" for children. [1] These players typically use as many audiences as an impromptu assistant. [1] Common Children's Magic Apparatus include: Run Rabbit Run, Hip Hop Rabbit, Change Bag Routine, Barring Stick, Turtle Bottle, and Spongeballs. Older children (from 7 up) tend to have much greater logic and more traditional and more innovative magic effects can be done.
