History
Entertainment formed in 2002 in Athens, Georgia, influenced by Doors, Love, Led Zeppelin, Bauhaus, Public Image Ltd, Healing, Gang of Four, Christian Death, Joy Division, Birthday Party, rank and krautrock.
After the release of December 2003 from their first single "Safe at One" on the Atlanta Stickfigure Records label, the band was signed by Luminal Records, which released their second single, "Patroness", in 2004. Separate 12-inch EP releases with Canadian band A Specter Is Haunting Europe followed in 2006 on Simulacre Media/Adistant Sound.
The debut album Entertainment, Gender , was released in 2008 by Stickfigure, with a vinyl remaster version published the following year on the New York label, Duchess Archive. It earned widespread critical acclaim and was voted the 2008 deathrock album by Deathrock.com. Yang said, "Entertainment takes on the dark, post-punk, gothic concept back onto the drawing board, eliminating complications and expenses with the miserable pop-sensitivity of bandwagoners' post-punk 'for the past half-decade, what they achieve with surrealistic, visually descriptive, and opium-like lyrics as speed is eventually parallel to not just Just Pain Theater , strangely enough. " In a live 2009 review for Shadowtime NYC, Critical Collection Kristin Sollee described Entertainment as: "The slow pace of anarchist pleasure that moves between pounding, tribal and creeping forces, Gothic robbery, some bands can make this music cool and abyssal so fiery and exciting ".
In 2016, the band toured the United States in support of Modern English.
