History

Before 2005 this casino was Grand Casinos and Caesars Entertainment property. After a change of ownership to Harrah's Entertainment it was announced that this casino is being converted to the Horseshoe brand. But these plans were suspended when Biloxi and the Gulf Coast were hit by Hurricane Katrina. The storm destroys the barge where the casino floor is located; a storm surge swept the barge from the shoreline along the road across Beach Boulevard, nearly 500 feet (150 m) deep. On May 21, 2006, the demolition crew blew up the hotel structure on the beach side, leaving Harrah's with a clean building for rebuilding.

After Katrina, the company announced that it would reopen the facility during Summer 2006, with a 35,000 square foot (3,300m 2 ) casino, spa and other facilities, but the South Highway 90 facility would take some time years to complete. On August 17, 2006, the first phase of redevelopment opened with a 495-room hotel and a new land-based casino.

The long term plan for this property is to build what Harrah's (now renamed back to Caesars) called "destination resorts." Part of the expansion plan revolves around the purchase of Caesars of 18 acres (73,000 m 2 ) consisting of neighboring Casino Magic properties. In May 2007, Harrah's announced Margaritaville Casino and Resort will be built on this site.

However, the expansion construction ceased in 2008 due to economic concerns, and in January 2011, Caesars officials announced a cessation of agreements with Jimmy Buffett and his Margaritaville brand. A new Casino and Restaurant Margaritaville, not affiliated with Caesars Entertainment, will be built at a different location in Biloxi.

In October 2017, property ownership was transferred to Vici Properties as part of a company spin-off, and leased back to Caesars Entertainment.
