Personal life

His first marriage, in 1954, was a socialite of Pat Kennedy, a younger sister of US Senator John F. Kennedy (D-MA). They have four children: a son, actor and writer Christopher Kennedy Lawford (born 1955), and Sydney girls Maleia Lawford (born 1956), Victoria Francis Lawford (born 1958), and Robin Elizabeth Lawford (born 1961).

Lawford became an American citizen on April 23, 1960. He had prepared this in time to elect his brother-in-law in the upcoming presidential election. Lawford, along with other "Rat Pack" members, helped campaign for Kennedy and the Democratic Party. Sinatra famously called him "Brother-in-Lawford" today. Lawford and Patricia Kennedy divorced in February 1966.

Lawford originally served as Alan A. Dale in the film Robin and the 7 Hoods but was replaced by Bing Crosby after a break in the Sinatra relationship with Lawford. The break came from a visit scheduled to Sinatra's house by Lawford's brother-in-law, President Kennedy, during the West Coast trip of 1962. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who had long worried Sinath's relationship with world leaders, urged the President to change his plans and living in Crosby's house, which (preserved) could provide better security for the President. The change came at the last minute, after Sinatra made extensive arrangements for the promised and long-awaited presidential visit, including the construction of a helipad. Sinatra was furious, believing that Lawford had failed to conspire with the Kennedys on his behalf, and ostracized him from the Rat Pack.

Sinatra and Lawford friendship ends. They only spoke when Sinatra called his son Frank Sinatra Jr., kidnapped on December 8, 1963, and he needed the help of Lawford's brother-in-law Robert Kennedy, who later became Attorney General. With the exception of Vice President President Hubert H. Humphrey 1968, Sinatra never supported other Democratic candidates. Crosby, a persistent Republican, eventually played a role in Lawford's role.

Lawford married his second wife, Mary Rowan, daughter of comedian Dan Rowan, in October 1971 when she was one day younger than her 22nd birthday; Lawford is 48 years old. Rowan and Lawford split up two years later and divorced in January 1975. In June 1976, at the age of 52, she married actress Deborah Gould, 25, whom she had known for only three weeks. Lawford and Gould split up two months after getting married and divorced in 1977. During his separation with Gould, Lawford met the 18-year-old Patricia Seaton - a woman over 40 years his junior - who became his fourth and final wife in July 1984, just months before his death.
