G Plan is a British furniture brand. It started as a pioneer of various furniture in the UK manufactured by E Gomme Ltd. of High Wycombe. The success of G Plan led E Gomme to become one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the UK, with profits increasing six-fold between 1952 and 1958 when it floated as an IPO.

Histori
The company was founded in 1898 by Ebeneezer Gomme. In 1943, during World War II, furniture was part of the allotment in England; The Trade Council prepares Utility schemes that limit the cost and type of furniture sold. A small number of simple designs are available in oaks or mahogany. The scheme ended in December 1952. This, combined with the Festival of Britain caused a pent-up demand for more modern furnishings.
In 1953, Donald Gomme, designer at E Gomme, decided to produce a variety of modern furniture for the whole house that could be purchased piece by piece within budget. Advertising is part of the plan from the start. The name was created by Doris Gundry from advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, and the furniture was advertised in magazines and in theaters directly to the public. The design is available for several years so that people can collect it slowly. All furniture is marked with a distinctive brand mark.
Another part of direct marketing is a showroom where the public can see furniture. There are small centers in the country, and "Gallery G Plan" at Vogue House, St George Street, Hanover Square in London. Donald Gomme left the company in 1958, perhaps the pinnacle of the company's success.
In the early 1960s the government introduced the restrictions on the purchase of rent (the most common method of purchasing furniture), and in response to competition from Danish furniture the company introduced the Danish Modern range (designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen), which made the rest of the range seem ancient. Gomme lost its leading position in the market, though they continue to be the major producers that create innovative designs with very famous brand names.
In 1987 the Gomme family - the main shareholder in the company - decided to retire. They sold the business to later directors, who, three years later, sold it to the Christie Tyler group of companies. In 1996, Morris Furniture Group obtained a license to manufacture and market G Plan Cabinet furniture in Glasgow. It operates separately for coating business. G Plan Upholstery Ltd, now based in a modern factory and office near Melksham, Wiltshire, continues to manufacture most of the sofa and chair products in the UK.
