CD-based 2.1 system

CD-based systems (using CD5, CD10, CD20 and C1 amplifiers) were produced from 1990-2003. CD10-based Lifestyle 10 is the first system released, and uses a single-disk CD player, AM/FM radio and can generate different sources for 2 rooms (called "Zone 2 technology" by Bose). In 1992, a CD5 based system was released.

The model based on the CD20 amplifier, which included 6 CD changers (using magazines, so playback must be stopped when changing CDs), was released in 1996. In 1999, the C1-based model was released, which included a remote touch screen. Lifestyle 40 model can produce different sources up to 4 rooms (called "Zone 4 technology" by Bose).

Speakers used for years include "directional" speakers, "direct/reflect" speakers, and "Jewel Cubes". The 901 Lifestyle system was released, using 901 speakers. All systems include active subwoofer.

DVD-based system

3-2-1

The first DVD-based Bose system was 3-2-1, released in 2001. The 3-2-1 and 321 DVD-based systems are still produced in 2012, in the form of the 321 Series III Series and the 321 GS I AM I AM. In 2003, 3-2-1 won the Red Dot award for product design, note this design award does not include audio quality in the assessment criteria. The first series has a CD-DVD player, AM-FM radio, two speakers "Articulated Array", subwoofer and virtual surround effects (called "TrueSpace" by Bose).

3-2-1 GS

In 2003, GS 3-2-1 was introduced with speakers "Gemstones".

321 Series II

In 2004, Bose managed to be 3-2-1 with 321 Series II (hyphen dropped from model name) with two versions: 321 Series II with original Articulated Array speakers and 321 Series II GS with "Gemstone" speakers, such as used in GS 3-2-1. The amplifier is moved to the subwoofer (called "AcoustiMass" by Bose), the control unit is smaller and the satellite is connected to the subwoofer. "BoseLink In" is added, which allows separate Bose systems to be controlled using the same remote and music from a single system can be played on all connected devices. Systems include universal remote.

The 321 GS II Series is featured in 'Potentials Magazine' as one of the "Best Products of 2005". The 321 II series was praised for its performance for the film, but was criticized for its performance with music and for not having an HDMI connection. The 321 Series II GS has similar results, but is also criticized for its value for money.

321 GSX

In 2005, Bose released GSX, which includes an internal hard drive for storage of mp3 and wma files (called "uMusic" by Bose). The system remembers playlist history, so playlists based on this history can be generated. The 321 GSX uses the speakers "Gemstone".

321 Series III

On July 31, 2008 Bose released the 321 Series III version with an HDMI connection and 1080p output, making it a DVD upscaling player.

321 GSX Series III and 321 GSXL Series III

In 2008, Bose released the GSX Series III. This name was chosen to coincide with the Series III time for 321 other models, therefore the GSX Series II was never released. GSXL Series III is equal to GSX Series III, but can withstand 200 hours (unknown bitrate) music. The 321GSX III was discontinued in September 2010. and 321 GSXL III was discontinued in July 2009.

Lifestyle 235

Bose released Lifestyle 235 on September 28, 2010. This system includes an AV receiver, iPod dock, subwoofer and satellite speakers. The "Gemstone ES" satellite speakers have three drivers each, two pointing forward and one pointing to the side, which is claimed to widen the soundstage and make it more "wrap".

The system has four HDMI 1.4a, two components, and three composite inputs. There is one HDMI 1.4a video output that scales video inputs up to 1080p output resolution. There are 3 other audio inputs: optical, coax and RCA. The AV35 receiver translates DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-MA (core) and uncompressed multi-channel PCM (aka LPCM). The receiver has two USB jacks for firmware updates and for viewing pictures & amp; RCA connector for "BoseLink In" and "BoseLink Out" connections to other Bose devices.

The on-screen wizard is included (termed "Unify" by Bose) and can detect 3rd party remote controls to help Bose's universal remote programming. The surround sound emulation is included (called "VideoStage 5" by Bose) to try to provide surround effects to mono and stereo sources. A microphone is included to help set the system for room acoustics (called "AdaptiQ" by Bose), like many other home theater receivers.

The input-television-based system

Television is used as the main input for this system. A small "interface module" is connected to the television, then the audio signal goes to the 2.1 loudspeaker system.

Freestyle

In 2002 the Freestyle system was introduced. This system uses the same "Articulated Array" speaker with 3-2-1.

Cinemate (Series I)

In 2005 Bose released the CineMate system. Because Cinemate is designed to be connected to a television audio output, the only input is a stereo RCA connection. Cinemate uses the same "Articulated Array" speaker as the 321 Series II.

CineMate Series II

On October 27th, 2009 Bose released CineMate Series II . Optical fiber input is added, as well as controls to adjust the subwoofer (called "AcoustiMass" by Bose) volume.

CineMate Series II GS

This refers to the CineMate Series II system, but with the "Gemstone" speakers and the universal remote.

Solo Series

The Solo Series TV loudspeaker is a single-unit system featuring multiple speakers, or drivers. Designed to be wall-mounted or seated under high-definition television (HD), Solo Series includes a universal remote control to control most multimedia devices. Most systems feature a Bluetooth connection for wireless audio streaming from compatible smartphones, tablets, or other devices (including switchable input systems), as well as a single connection to a user's HDTV via optical audio or A/V connections (optical audio is recommended for best audio quality). This system is supported by an AC connection to a wall outlet or surge protector.
