History

In November 2013, it was reported that MLSE had contracted an architect to design a new training facility for the Raptors. The team has been trained in a practice field located in the ACC since it opened in 1999, and the new facility will allow this space to be converted into a restaurant or nightclub. An agreement was reached with the City of Toronto to build facilities at the city's Exhibition Center. It will feature two courts, one of which will be open to the public, and Canada Basketball will also use the facility.

MLSE will pay the entire construction cost of $ 30 million and lease the property out of the city for $ 205,000 per year, subject to reassessment for inflation, for a period of 20 years, with two options to extend it over the next 10 years, after which the city will take ownership of the building. MLSE has requested that the city free up part of publicly available facilities (32%) of city taxes. Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2014, with facilities completed in time for hosting teams from the NBA All-Star Game in February 2016.

The proposal was approved by the Board of Governors of the Exhibition Place on August 14, the Toronto City Executive Committee on August 20, and the Toronto City Council on August 25.

In November 2015 it was announced that the facility would be named BioSteel Center, after the company's sponsor BioSteel Sports Nutrition Inc.

Raptors 905, an affiliate team of the Mississauga-based Raptors NBA Development League, also sometimes practiced at BioSteel Center.
