The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of South Las Vegas Boulevard in Clark County, Nevada known for its concentration of resort and casino hotels. The Strip is approximately 4.8 miles (6.8 km) long, located just south of the Las Vegas city limits in unionized cities in Paradise and Winchester. However, the Strip is often called to be in Las Vegas.
Many of the world's largest hotel, casino and resort properties are located on the Las Vegas Strip. This city street view is highlighted by the use of contemporary architecture, lights, and various attractions. Hotels, casinos, restaurants, high-rise housing, entertainment deals, and horizons have established the Las Vegas Strip as one of the most popular and iconic tourist destinations in the United States and the world. Most of the Strips have also been designated as All-American Roads and are considered a beautiful route at night.

Boundary
Historically, casinos that do not exist in Downtown Las Vegas along Fremont Street are confined outside the city limits of Las Vegas Boulevard. In 1959, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign was built exactly 4.5 miles (7.2 km) outside the city limits. This sign is now located in the median just south of Russell Street, opposite Klondike Hotel & amp; Casino, about 0.4 miles (0.64 km) south of the southernmost entrance to Mandalay Bay (southernmost casino).
In the strictest sense, "Line" refers only to the stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard that is roughly between Sahara Avenue and Russell Street, a distance of 4.2 miles (6.8 km). However, the term is often used to refer not only to the street but also to the numerous casinos and resorts that line the streets, and even to properties that are not on the road but within close range. Phrases like the Strip Area , Resort Corridor or Resort District are sometimes used to indicate a larger geographic area, including a 1 mile property (1.6 km )) or farther from Las Vegas Boulevard, such as the Hard Rock casinos, Rio, Palms, and Hooters.
The old definition considers the northern terminal of the Line as the SLS, although the travel guides usually extend it to enter the Stratosphere, 0.4 miles (0.64 km) to the north. Mandalay Bay, located north of Russell Road, is the southernmost resort considered to be on the Strip (Klondike is the southernmost until 2006, when it is closed, though it is not included on the Las Vegas Strip on some definitions and travel guides).
Due to the number and size of the resort, the Resort Corridor can be very wide. Interstate 15 runs approximately parallel and 0.5 to 0.8 miles (0.80 to 1.29 km) west of Las Vegas Boulevard for the entire length of the Strip. Paradise Road stretches east in the same way, and ends at St. Louis Avenue. The east side of the Strip is bordered by McCarran International Airport south of Tropicana Avenue.
To the north of this point, the Resort Corridor can be considered as far east as Paradise Road, though some regard Koval Lane as a less inclusive boundary. Interstate 15 is sometimes considered the western edge of the Corridor Resort from Interstate 215 to Spring Mountain Road. North of this point, Industrial Road serves as the western end.
New hotels and resorts such as South Point, Grandview Resort and M Resort are on Las Vegas Boulevard South 8 miles south of the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. Marketing for these casinos usually states that they are in the southern Las Vegas Boulevard and not the "Strip" property.

History
Early_years_ (1930s-1990s) "> In the early years (1930s 1990)The first casino built on Highway 91 was the Pair-o-Dice Club in 1931, but the first resort on the site of the Strip is now El Rancho Vegas, opened on April 3, 1941, with 63 rooms. The casino/resort stood for nearly 20 years before being destroyed by a fire in 1960. His success spawned a second hotel on what would become the Strip, Last Frontier Hotel, in 1942. Caesars Palace was founded in 1966. In 1968, Kirk Kerkorian bought Flamingos and rented Sahara Hotels Vice President Alex Shoofey as President. Alex Shoofey brings 33 top Sahara executives. Flamingo is used to train future employees of the International Hotel, which is being built. Opened in 1969, the International Hotel, with 1,512 rooms, embarked on a mega-resort era. International is known as Westgate Las Vegas today. The first MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, as well as the Kerkorian property, opened in 1973 with 2,084 rooms. Recent years (2000-present)
With the opening of the Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn and Encore resorts, this strip leads to the upscale luxury segment through most of the 2000s, while some older resorts add great expansion and renovation, including some de-theming from previous themed hotels.. Fancy restaurants, specialty retail, spas and nightclubs are increasingly becoming an option for visitors other than gambling in most Strip resorts. There is also a tendency toward expensive housing condo units on the strip.
In 2004, MGM Mirage announced plans for CityCenter, a multi-purpose 66 acre (27 ha) multipurpose project, $ 7 billion on the Boardwalk website and adjoining land. It consists of hotels, casinos, condominiums, retail, art, business, and other uses on the site. The City Center is currently the largest complex in the world. Construction began in April 2006, with most of the project elements open at the end of 2009. In 2012, High Roller Ferris wheel and retail district called The LINQ Promenade became a breakthrough, in an effort to diversify tourist spots outside the casino resort. Renovations and rebranding such as The Cromwell Las Vegas and SLS Las Vegas continue to transform The Strip in 2014. Las Vegas Festival Grounds open in 2015. In 2016, T-Mobile Arena, The Park, Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino, and Park Theater opened. Smaller changes and developments also occur.
On October 1, 2017, a mass shoot took place on the Strip at the music festival Route 91 Harvest route, adjacent to the Mandalay Bay hotel. This incident became the most deadly mass shooting in the history of modern United States.
Further developments
Monte Carlo Resort and Casino is undergoing a two-year, $ 450 million change to MGM Park to be completed by the end of 2018.
Transportation
RTC Transit (formerly Citizens Area Transit, or CAT) provides a bus service on the Line with a double-decker bus known as The Deuce. The Deuce runs between Mandalay Bay at the southern end of the Strip (and to the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and South Strip Transfer Terminal after midnight) to the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC) and the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas, with stops near every casino. RTC also operates an express bus called the Strip and Downtown Express (SDX). This route connects the Strip to the Las Vegas Convention Center and Downtown Las Vegas to the north, with stops at several hotels and shopping venues (Las Vegas Premium Outlets North & South).
Though not on the Path itself, the Las Vegas Monorail runs on the east side of the Strip corridor from Tropicana Avenue to Sahara Avenue.
Some free trams run on the west side of the Strip:
- Mandalay Bay Tram connects Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur
- Aria Express connects Park MGM, Crystals (also stops for Aria), and Bellagio
- Between Treasure Island and The Mirage
Prior to the operation of the CAT bus service started in 1992, mass transit on the Strip was provided by a private freight company, Las Vegas Transit. Strip strips are their only profitable route and support the entire bus system.
Pedestrian traffic
Regarding pedestrian safety and to help reduce traffic congestion at popular intersections, several pedestrian crossing bridges were established in the 1990s. Some design features that match the nearest resort theme. Tropicana footprints - Las Vegas Boulevard was first installed, and based on the success of this project, an additional bridge was built on Las Vegas Boulevard at the intersection of Flamingo Road connecting Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Bally's and The Cromwell; between The Mirage/Treasure Island and The Venetian, and at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard-Spring Mountain and Sands Avenue that connects Wynn with Fashion Show Mall, The Palazzo, and Treasure Island. According to the annual Visitor Visitors' Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority study, only 36% of people said they walked on the Strip, a number that fell from 2013 (52%).
Strip attractions
Golf
In 2000, Bali Hai Golf Club opened just south of Mandalay Bay and the Strip.
Since the value of land on the Path has increased over the years, resort-affiliated golf courses have been removed to make way for project development. The Tropicana Country Club closed in 1990 and Dunes golf course in the mid 90's. Steve Wynn, formerly owned founder of Mirage Resorts, bought the Desert Inn and golf course for his new company, Wynn Resorts, and redeveloped the golf course as Wynn Golf Club. The course is closed in 2017. Aladdin also has a nine-hole golf course in the 1960s.
In 2016, TopGolf opens near the Strip.

- The Bonanza Gift Store is billed as "The Largest Gift Shop in the World", with over 40,000 square feet (3,700 m 2 ) shopping space.
- The Shoppes at The Palazzo features luxury shops including Barneys New York's only department store in Las Vegas.
- The Fashion Show Mall is adjacent to Treasure Island and across from Wynn Las Vegas.
- The Grand Canal Shoppes is a luxury mall connected to The Venetian with canals, gondolas and gondolas.
- LINQ Promenade is an open retail, dining and entertainment area nestled between Linq and Flamingo resorts that opened gently in January 2014. This leads from the entrance of the Strip to the High Roller.

The Las Vegas Strip is famous for lounges, showrooms, theaters and nightclubs; most attractions and shows on the Strip are located on the hotel's casino property. Some of the more popular free attractions seen from the Strip include the fountains at Bellagio, the volcano at The Mirage, and the Fall of Atlantis and the Fountain Festival at Caesars Palace. There are several Cirque du Soleil performances, such as KÃÆ' at MGM Grand, O in Bellagio, MystÃÆ'¨re on Treasure Island, Zumanity (for ages 18 and older) in New York-New York, Criss Angel Mindfreak in Luxor, and Michael Jackson: One in Mandalay Bay.
Many famous artists have appeared in Las Vegas, including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Wayne Newton, Liza Minnelli, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Liberace, and in recent years Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Barry Manilow, Cher, Elton John, Bette Midler, Donny, and Marie Osmond, Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, Reba McEntire, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Criss Angel Olivia Newton-John has been living residency at various resorts on the Strip. The only live cinema on the Strip is the 10-screen Regal Showcase Theater at Showcase Mall. The theater was opened in 1997 and operated by Regal Entertainment Group, until it closed in 2018.
