It begins on September 9, 2015, in Montreal, Canada, at Bell Center and ends on March 20, 2016, in Sydney, Australia at the Allphones Arena. The all-round Rebel Heart Tour also visits the cities where the singer has never performed before, and he first visited Australia since The Girlie Show World Tour (1993).

The training for the tour begins after its announcement and lasts 10-12 hours per day, with the involvement of Madonna's team of creative directors, producers, designers and choreographers. It was inspired by shows like Cirque du Soleil and Chinese New Year, as well as by films like 300 (2006) and Grease (1978). Madonna enrolled Jamie King as creative director, and Megan Lawson and Jason Yong as choreographers. The tour features costumes from Moschino, Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci and Swarovski jewelery, and an elevated stage with a runway and a heart-shaped front. Multimedia is created by Moment Factory, while sound and light are produced by Clay Paky and DiGiCo, respectively.

The main theme of the show is love and romance, and consists of four segments, with each inspired by different topics. Inspiration varies from cover artwork Rebel Heart , Joan of Arc and Tokyo for rock and roll, Latin culture and partying. The set list has more than 20 songs taken from Madonna's career along with material from Rebel Heart . Critics of giving the reviews were generally positive, praising the presence of Madonna's stage, vocals and imagery presented.

The tour wooed a number of controversies, but achieved commercial success. The event was attended by over 1.05 million viewers with all the shows sold out. It puts it third in the list of the best-selling boxscore Billboard , just behind the Rolling Stones and U2. The 19-20 March 2016 show, performed at the Allphones Arena, was filmed by Danny Tull and Nathan Rissman for the Madonna: The Rebel Heart Tour . To promote her 12th studio album, MDNA (2012), Madonna embarked on the MDNA Tour, which visits America, Europe and the Middle East, but does not go to Australia or East Asia. In March 2015, Madonna released her 13th studio album, ; The release was plagued by internet hackers who leaked their content before. Many news outlets started reporting on a support concert tour for the album, which was officially announced on March 1, 2015, on the official website of Madonna. Entitled Rebel Heart Tour, originally scheduled to start on August 29, 2015, from Miami and continues throughout Europe, and ends on December 20, 2015, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Rebel Heart Tour is headed by Live Nation Entertainment's Global Tour Division, led by Arthur Fogel. It was Madonna's fifth collaboration with Live Nation. Fogel commented that the leak had helped bring more attention to Madonna's music and it was a positive scenario for the world tour. "It's kind of weird how it all happened, but it certainly does not become negative in terms of getting people involved with new music.Whatever helps to put it out there is good, even if it happens in a strange way", he concluded.

On May 21, 2015, Madonna rescheduled the first five dates of the tour and moved them to January 2016. The singer confirmed that the logistics arrangements were the cause of the delay and announced that the first date was changed to September 9, 2015, at Bell Center in Montreal, Canada. According to Billboard, the Rebel Heart Tour is an all-inclusive tour, and will visit the cities where Madonna has never performed before. The tour visited Australia and New Zealand in early 2016, and was the singer's first visit to Australia in more than 20 years, after the last tour there with The Girlie Show World Tour in 1993, and the first time in New Zealand. The Philippines was added to the tour schedule, for two performances at SM Mall of Asia in February 2016.

After the tour began, Madonna revealed 16 other dates in Asia and North America. They included first concerts in Taipei, Bangkok, Louisville, San Antonio, Tulsa and Nashville as well as their first concerts in Tokyo in a decade and additional dates in Mexico City and Houston. Singapore added to the itinerary for February 28, 2016; the concert is rated as "only for adults" by the Media Development Authority (MDA) in the country. Prior to arriving in Australia, Madonna announced an additional show on March 10, 2016 at Melbourne's Forum Theater. The show was aired as an intimate performance, and was portrayed by the singers as a fusion of music, art and comedy. The title is the Madonna show: Tears of a Clown and made especially for Madonna fans in Australia.

Development

Conception and practice

When creating the material for Rebel Heart, Madonna will get a "short moment about the idea" about what she wants to do on the tour. After the promotional show supports the album, he has a concrete picture of the theme he wants to combine. In March 2015 he explained: "I love to make personas and then persona change and grow into other things... I am at the beginning of the process now, in terms of thinking about my tour and things". Exercises for the tour take place for 10-12 hours per day. Madonna admits she loves tour practice and creative process, noting her complete involvement in her development. Unlike The MDNA Tour, Madonna insists that her son Rocco will not perform on stage, but instead will work behind the scenes of the Rebel Heart Tour.

In July 2015, Madonna worked on a list set with her team of creative directors, producers, designers and choreographers. He describes the tour as a "typical theater spectacle" including songs from his entire career. Madonna sees the challenge of switching between the material from Rebel Heart and her previous works, because "thematically the old and new songs - they have to go together; sonically they have to go together". The theme of the show comes from the name Rebel Heart , and shows off the singer's personal statements and opinions, which are represented in the form of travel. Love and romance are listed as the central theme of the show, with Madonna wanting the audience to feel inspired to watch it. He juxtaposes conflicting ideas of sexuality and religion, saying that "I am deeply immersed in [how they] should not go together, but in my world it goes together". The inspiration for Rebel Heart Tour came from shows such as Cirque du Soleil and Chinese New Year, as well as from films like 300 (2006) and Grease (1978). Jamie King was signed as the creative director for the event, while Megan Lawson and Jason Young choreographed 20 dancers through elaborate acrobatic dance steps. Since Madonna started her career as a dancer, she tries to find "unique and original dancers to work with" and create regular content and dances that will appeal to the audience.

French choreographer SÃÆ' Â © bastian Ramirez was hired from an audition to select the backup dancer for the show, which saw over 5,000 applicants in Paris, New York and Los Angeles. Madonna admires Ramirez's work and asks him to make a two-song choreography for the show. Ramirez was surprised by the fast speed at which Madonna and her team generated and exchanged ideas for the tour. Taking over the entire show, Madonna will explain the emotions behind the song and then entrust Ramirez and other choreographers to make the routine.

Two short videos released in singer Instagram account, showing the exercises that take place. Like the "Devil Pray" and "Iconic" of the album, the video shows flamenco-inspired choreography, the nuns dancing on the pole, and an elaborate set decorated with dancers carrying gigantic props. The singer continues to release pictures and videos related to the tour, including a dance training workshop. Madonna chose comedian Amy Schumer as the opening act for the show in New York, deviating from hiring a band or disc jockey to open the show. The singer recalled the idea because he believes Schumer is a role model for young women. Diplo, one of the producers of Rebel Heart , was hired as the opening act for the Montreal show.

Staging and venue settings

For stage preparation, creative design and logistics groups, Stufish was hired. They began brainstorming with Madonna and King in January 2015, after a list of 25 songs has been created. The central theme of Rebel Heart is reproduced on a base that resembles an arrow or cross, with a heart at the end. Stufish, who had previously developed the structure for The MDNA Tour, is registered for the Rebel Heart Tour. The perpendicular structure radiating from the center of the runway allows Madonna and her dancers to reach more audiences. Joking that the stage looks like a penis, Stufish's architect Ric Lipson reminds Madonna that: "the heart and the penis are clearly related and this is God's way of organizing [my] life in motion."

The large main stage is lifted and erected at the end of the arena, with long catwalks extending from the center. The center of the catwalk has a circular stage, while the path ends up being a heart-shaped stage. To facilitate the entrance and exit of Madonna and its dancers, openings were created along the stage, as well as below. Behind the main stage, three large video screens are placed, with the band and two background Madonna vocalists in front of him. A number of obstacles and barriers are provided by Mojo Barriers to separate the stage from the audience and the production area upfront. All barriers are provided in black aluminum.

The intricate machine structure allows the whole stage to be mobile and has many shapes and sizes throughout the show. This structure has a video screen of 28-ft-16 ft (8.5 m m 4.9 m) which can turn into a main stage floor. The same screen is converted into a platform of 8 feet (2.4 m) elevated by varying degrees in half a minute, or an angled wall for a swinging Madonna dancer. Custom made bungee points attach to the top edge of the machine, allowing players to "flip, fall, run and roll up and down the road". Visual display screen created by Moment Factory and Veneno Inc. Another support is a 16 foot (4.9 m) 2.4 m spiral steel staircase hidden from the audience at first. Lipson explained that it was made from a single steel block. Though it is not recommended to use steel because of its weight and magnitude, Madonna wants it because she has found useful robustness during practice. The simpler visuals designed by Stufish include a table used during the "Vogue" show, which is 23 feet (7.0 m) in length and has flashed 4.4 feet (1.3 m) of high candelabras at each end. A set of crosses for the dancing nuns is designed to support both Madonna and a dancer on it. They were completed from 17 different prototypes, and tied up with links, allowing the dancers to figure out the way they rotate.

Tom Banks from Design Week magazine visited the under 6-foot (1.8 m) stage. There the dancers change, the props are handed out and the players reach the main stage often through many hydraulic lifts. The bank further describes the space as "the underground area, which is a tread beneath the stage rather than backstage. This is a labyrinth of tunnels, wires and props impaired only by platforms that are ready to send the players into the light". Madonna sits on a trolley that leads her from end to end. She has a temporary dressing room underneath, to be touched in between performances. In total, the stage and equipment required 27 semitrailers and 187 staff members to transport throughout Europe and North America. For the Oceania event, three Boeing 747 aircraft were employed. The singer flew to every location on her private jet, showing up in the afternoon for practice, sound and safety checks. A recreation area is also closed behind the stage, with a hospitality and catering area. Madonna's dressing room consists of furniture, drawings and sports equipment, along with some flowers.

Costume design

Madonna had enlisted a Spanish tailor company from Zaragoza to create two madfighter de luces costumes, along with a cloak and costume associated with the matador for her background dancers. Sewing companies must sign confidentiality agreements about costumes. They also make some adjustments to the traditional design, such as replacing the image of Jesus or Mary with the capital 'M'. According to company manager Alfredo Roqueta, the clothes were made in 12 days. Madonna and her dancers did not go for trials and sent their measurements via e-mail. Representative PETA condemned the outfit, criticizing the singer for "glorifying thick blood". In August 2015, Madonna revealed the names of designers who worked on costumes for a tour of Women's Wear Daily; they include Jeremy Scott for Moschino, Alessandro Michele for Gucci and Alexander Wang, along with Fausto Puglisi, Prada, Miu Miu, Swarovski and Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran. Together with his old costume designer, Arianne Phillips, Madonna shows the costume pieces in Instagram. Additional designers include Geoffrey Mac, Lynn Ban, and Majesty Black.

During the show, Madonna turned into eight different appearances. She is accompanied by 28 players, and has ten costume changes for 20 dancers, six for background singers and four for the band. Phillips has been working "on-and-off" on the Rebel Heart Tour since December 2014. He first heard of Michele in February 2015 through British fashion critic Suzy Menkes. Phillips contacted Gucci to design the costumes for the tour but it was not until April 2015 that the set list and event structure were completed, which sparked costume making. Michele's design consists of a mixture of Chinoiserie style skirts with Spanish and Latin influences, depicting the singer as a "1920s diva". Another costume is described by Menkes as "exotic, Frida Kahlo dancing with ruffles, colors, and different aesthetic types". Michele meets Madonna as she trains in Manhattan and tries to design early. Michele enters the commentary of the singer's singer and works in his office to make the final costume.

For the first part, inspired by the album cover and Joan of Arc, Phillips made a series of costumes with liturgical cloth. He further took inspiration from the contemporary samurai armor exhibit at the Los Angeles County Art Museum. Miuccia Prada created costumes for the second part, based on rock-n-roll and took influence from Japanese street fashion. During Latin influenced by the third part, Puglisi and Jebran create a matador-inspired costume depicted in the music video of the album's first single, "Living for Love". They use a black tulle netting on their pants and match the dress with a transparent side panel, holding it in a black jacket and fuchsia emblazoned with the letter 'M' in Swarovski crystals. Another design by Michele has Madonna wearing a scarf, flamenco hat, lace, skirt and jacquard bodysuit. Phillips was impressed by the dress, saying that he was "absolutely fascinated, I love the [Michele] hands, the clothes are lyrical and feminine and they tell the story." To the end, Madonna works with Scott and wants a "Harlem-flapper-meets-Paris-in-the-Twenties" look. Scott created the last dress decorated with thousands of Swarovski crystals and long-braided gloves, for songs like "Material Girl".

Two weeks before the opening night, the design team moved to the practice site at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. Wang had to make changes to the dress because of the last minute change in production, adding that for Madonna "her show first, she should be able to dance and move and feel comfortable in it". A week later Michele has the ultimate fixture for Gucci costume. Phillips explained that until the performance of the song and choreography is complete, Madonna gives no last mark on the costume or design.

Rich media and videos

Montreal-based multimedia company, Moment Factory, listed, this is their third collaboration with Madonna, following the Super Bowl XLVI and MDNA Tour. They work closely with Kings and Madonna to develop new backgrounds, design and produce video for the show. Three large video screens are used to achieve theatrical visual effects on a large scale. The opening video was filmed with boxer Mike Tyson, who appeared as guest vocalist at Rebel Heart song "Iconic". He feels that the video may be received negatively because it shows him as a savage, naked and hostage in a cage. The video clip was previewed by the singer before the tour began, showing him pushing the cage, embracing a naked man and a troop of soldiers walking with badges.

British director Danny Tull was signed for a background tour. Tull, who has collaborated with Madonna since her 2006 Confessions Tour, explained that the singer is "detail-oriented" and every scene in the background has a creative meaning behind it. The first video shows themes including confinement, love, sex and violence among others, which change in the background for "Bitch I'm Madonna", where Tull wants to create abstract images, color elements and useless dancing. The visuals for "Devil Pray" indicate drug intake, snakes, churches and crosses, interspersed with scenes of baptism and religious processes. To make a video, Tull and his team discuss with Madonna at night because she is busy with practice all day. They align to the source of the image, any permission if required, use of stock recordings or new graphics. The idea of using fan art during the "Rebel Heart" show comes from this thinking. The official website of Madonna launched a contest where fans sent their artwork related to the singers, with them featured as digital galleries directly during the "Rebel Heart" show. Some layering and rendering are done for most videos. Different multimedia software is used to create clips, including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Avid, and Final Cut Pro. For Tull, the challenge is to adapt each software based on the different videos they will make, including last minute changes and tweaks.

Al Gurdon's lighting designers work with Stufish and Tait Towers for light settings, which are handled by PRG Group. The three main video screens are placed in a corner way, to facilitate better vision for the audience sitting in the side area. The Hippotizer V3 media server is used for content playback and is operated by Will Stinson PRG Nocturne. They used the newly installed GroundControl FollowControl device, which is attached as a frame to the top of the screen, using the Hurricane Paky Plate. Equipped with high-definition cameras, they are operated from backstage, and relevant personnel can only use the camera and direct the light to illuminate a particular area. Console Director Joshua Hutchings controls their colors, beams, and shutters. The advantage of the following pot is to allow the lighting personnel to operate from a comfortable environment, rather than riding in a high area on stage. Hutchings explains that the entire show is timed and in line with the choreography.

For audio engineering on the tour, the DiGiCo SD7 console is used by sound mixing specialist Andy Meyer, and monitors engineers Matt Napier and Sean Spuehler. Because Madonna wants her vocals to be heard directly, Spuehler mixes her singing with effects and then adds it to the home console for transmission to the loudspeaker. During the show, the singer explores into the middle of the audience at the end of the catwalk, producing a spill of his ever-changing microphone. The voice crew uses time codes such as lighting and choreography, so the sound feedback also changes depending on where the singer is on stage. All the musicians who accompany Madonna wear in-ear monitors. Additional monitors are used for music director and keyboardist Kevin Antunes, drummer Brian Frasier-Moore and sidefill drummer for the dancers. All entries from different personnel, including Madonna, are added to the SD7 console. Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI) is used to record all performances to a digital audio workstation on a RAID drive. They are archived into a 4TB hard disk.

Concert synopsis

The show begins with a video showing Madonna in a dress, exploring with a naked man, and juxtaposed with Mike Tyson speaking in a cage. Ten dancers wearing gold and black samurai out to the catwalk carrying huge golden spears, as Madonna descends to a stage wrapped in a steel cage to sing "Icon". The show continued with "Bitch I'm Madonna", which included four female dancers dressed as geisha and male dancers engaged in martial arts. Nicki Minaj's rapper appears on the video screen. The singer then plays "Burning Up" on the Gibson Flying V electric guitar, while moving to the center stage. During "Holy Water", the female dancers dressed like nuns danced and accompanied her. In the middle of the show, Madonna sang a fragment of "Vogue" and revived the Last Supper with some dancers. This was followed by an acoustic version of "Devil Pray" with Madonna appearing to subdue male dancers before disappearing backstage.

During the first video interlude, the dancer appeared on stage while waving a large white cloth in front of the fan. The album track "Messiah" is played as a scene from the "Ghosttown" music video that is displayed on the screen. The next segment begins with "Body Shop", where Madonna sings the song with the dancer dressed as a mechanic, in front of the 1965 Ford Falcon. He then plays the ukulele for the acoustic version of "True Blue" followed by the disco version of "Deeper and Deeper", which is sung at the end of the catwalk. A spiral staircase descends from the ceiling for a "HeartBreakCity" and "Love Do not Live Here Anymore" mashup, where a male dancer follows Madonna up and down the ladder before she pushes it off the top. He closed the section with a remix of "Like a Virgin", doing that in front of fans placed around the catwalk.

The second video interlude begins with mashup "S.E.X." and "Justify My Love", in which eight dancers endorsed sexual positions in four beds, as an edited version of the "Erotica" music video played in the background. The third part begins with a remixed version of "Living for Love", with Madonna dressed as a matador, before moving on to the flamenco version of "La Isla Bonita". After a quick costume change, Madonna returned to the stage accompanied by dancers dressed in colorful Spanish outfits. A medley of his past songs, including "Dress You Up", "Into the Groove", "Everybody", and "Lucky Star" were performed, with slow speeds for the acoustic version of "Who's That Girl". The album's title track closes the segment with Madonna playing the guitar and artwork submitted to the singer featured on the video screen.

During the last interlude, "Illuminati", seven dancers climbed as high as 20 feet and began swinging back and forth over the audience. The singer returned to the stage wearing a 1920s flapper dress to do the "Music" and "Candy Shop" mashups. The sluggish version of "Material Girl" finds Madonna pushing her tuxedo dancer down; the show ends with the singer walking on the catwalk in a wedding veil and carrying a white bouquet, which is finally thrown towards the audience. He plays the ukulele once again for the cover version of "La Vie en rose", singing alone on stage. For "Unapologetic Bitch", Madonna invites someone from the audience, calls the person by the titular name, and gives them a gift with a banana. The show ends with "Holiday", where Madonna comes out wrapped in the flag of the country she is performing, while dancing around the stage when confetti falls from the ceiling. At the end of the show, he was tied into a harness and flew on stage, before disappearing behind the video screen.

Commercial revenue

Ticket sales

Rebel Heart Tour is Madonna's third and final tour under a ten-year multi-rights deal with Live Nation, signed in 2007 for $ 120 million. General sales for the tour starts from March 9, 2015, and North American tickets purchased online are bundled with exclusive digital downloads Rebel Heart . Special access is given to members of the Madonna fan club known as Icons, including first access to tickets and VIP tickets. Citi is registered as an official bank for touring, with cardholders having the ability to purchase tickets early. The price is almost identical to some of Madonna's last tours, with the highest price in the $ 300- $ 350 range, and the cheapest is $ 35. However, tickets for her show in Manila are above average prices and range from $ 70 ( ? 3,145 ) to $ 1,300 (? 57,750 ).

According to Jesse Lawrence of Forbes, the initial price on the secondary market indicates that the Rebel Heart Tour will be the most expensive concert tour of 2015. The average ticket for the Rebel Heart Tour is priced at $ 452.33 in Madonna secondary market, a total which was much higher than the 1989 Taylor Swift World Tour, whose average ticket price was $ 305.21. Madonna surpassed Fleetwood Mac as the artist with the most expensive tour (51.5% more) by 2015. The October 24 show in Las Vegas became the most expensive date with an average price of $ 949.21, while the cheapest tickets available for $ 164.30 on Edmonton, according to Viagogo. Lawrence also notes that the secondary market price is much higher than The MDNA Tour, suggesting a favorable competitive scenario against Madonna.

Tickets for events start to sell quickly; cities like Edmonton, Paris and Turin were sold out within minutes of being available, resulting in a second show there. Live Nation partnered with a gay geosocial networking app, Grindr, and advertised there promoting the tour, which resulted in further ticket sales. For Australian dates, Telstra's pre-sale generates all the bargain tickets sold earlier, with only the VIP and more expensive packages remaining. Madonna fan club members were given first priority to buy Australian tickets. This was followed by Citibank card holders, Telstra presale, Live Nation members, and a final public ticket from July 6, 2015. Tickets for Taiwan's first singer concert sold out within 15 minutes, pushing the second date to add. In Hong Kong, tickets were sold out within ten minutes of being available, setting records for the best-selling concert there; the second date added on February 18th in the same place.

Boxscore

A news report in the New York Post claims that the tour sales will be lower than the MDNA Tour, with places including New York still having tickets available after the first day. Fogel dismissed the report, explaining that "[a] touring with a budget like [Madonna] is calculated to be added on the second and third nights of the market... That's why it's scheduled with lots of empty dates in the main market." Writing for Forbes, Lawrence criticized the news, saying that "Madonna posted some of the most expensive ticket prices on the secondary market this year... And although the media will continue to speculate that Madonna is nearing the end of her famous career, his box office has shown that he is still among the upper echelons of the pop music elite. "

In October 2015, Billboard announced the first box for the tour, reporting the first ten dates. The gross total is $ 20 million with 132,769 tickets sold. The opening show in Montreal is considered spotlight with a gross total of $ 3.4 million. The highest gross comes from shows in New York, generating $ 5.2 million out of a total of 28,371 viewers. The second set of boxscores was published in November 2015, and the tour earned another $ 25.4 million. The first leg of the tour has a presence of over 300,000 with $ 46 million in bulk. Among the arenas where Madonna performs for one date, MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas has a gross maximum income of $ 3.5 million, acquired on 24 October. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn has the highest audience of 14,258 among the dates of a single show.

With the European leg started, Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reported that the concert at Tele 2 Arena in Stockholm attracted a total of 40,557 spectators, making it a new record for the venue. In December 2015, the fourth boxscore number was reported with a gross total of $ 22.6 million from eight markets and a total of 194,827 tickets sold. Billboard also describes the actual tickets sold in Sweden to 39,338. Another $ 7.5 million was reported from events in Zurich, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. At the end of 2015, the tour was placed at number 11 on the "Top 100 Year 2015 World Pollstar" list, with gross revenue of $ 88.4 million from 49 gigs with a total attendance of 693,061.

North American boxes for the 2016 show were published in March 2016, with total tickets sold increasing to 819,792 and grossing $ 107.3 million. After the tour ended, Billboard announced the final gross at $ 169.8 million with a total of 1,045,479 tickets sold. Critical response

North America

Writing for the New York Daily News, Jim Farber notes that the most surprising aspect of the tour is not a provocative portrayal and appearance, but that Madonna appears in a mild mood and smiles all the time. This thought was repeated by Jordan Zivitz of the Montreal Gazette who observed that after the first part, the tone of the tour became more cheerful because Madonna seemed to "enjoy herself". He praised the performance of "La Vie en rose" and ended a review saying that "the show shares self-confidence and a sense of play". Chris Kelly of The Washington Post reviewed the show at Verizon Center, saying that Madonna remains "provocative as usual... As the show [she] begins... [questions like 'After three decades in the spotlight, Madonna still has it? '] Go out the window ".

Alex Needham of The Guardian judged Madison Square Garden's concert as five of five stars, praising the performance of the old songs and describing the concert as "an affirmation that no other player like him is." Tonight, Madonna killed him. In a positive review written in The Village Voice , Hillary Hughes calls Madonna "the patron saint of the revolution in action". Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone praised Madonna's solidarity during the show saying, "She has not reached so far on stage, music or emotionally, since the 2001 extravaganza at Drowned World." Joe Gottlieb of The Boston Herald theorizes that "Madonna's vision has intelligent thinking, which its imitators can not think of imitating".

Billboard ' s Joe Lynch rate a four-star concert of five, noting that "Madonna's restless creative spirit is emblazoned on the Rebel Heart Tour". He praised the opening act of Schumer and the appearance of "Music", medley and "Body Shop". Jon Pareles writes in The New York Times that "[t] for decades, Madonna's tour has given the glasses that push the hot buttons abundantly". But with the Rebel Heart Tour, Pareles observes Madonna doing what she likes, rather than being controversial. The reviewers also praised the remixes of his past hits. Ashley Lee of The Hollywood Reporter shared the same feedback, saying that the singer "[presented] the years of his creative vision and expertise on stage to deliver performances packed with visual variations, thematic theaters, and inventive instruments to refresh even his earliest hits ". Giving a B rating concert, Melissa Maerz from Entertainment Weekly was struck by Madonna's "playful" mood during the show, as she felt that the opening sequence was reminiscent of a darker diamond during the MDNA Tour. In a review for New York magazine Lindsay Zolatz praised the show, the dancers during the "Illuminati", but criticized the over-inclusion of Rebel Heart in the set list.

Europe

The German newspaper Volksstimme reviews the show in Cologne and describes it as "Madonna-show in miniature", noting that the "classic" hit gets the biggest compliment from the audience. Anders Nunstedt of the Swedish newspaper Expressen attended the show in Stockholm and called it the flagship of the MDNA Tour. Nunstedt praised the interactive nature of the show, and praised the singer's speech about the Paris attack in November 2015 and sang "Like a Prayer" in recognition of the victims and survivors. Andrea Annaratone of Italy Vanity Fair reviewed the show in Turin and gave a similar feedback like Nunstedt, but she criticized Madonna for starting a late concert. Peter Vantyghem of Belgium De Standaard reviews the show in Antwerp. He criticized the assimilation of music during the Latin section, but was free about the end of the show and the message of love and positivism. Hester Carvalho of the NRC Handelsblad rated Amsterdam four stars out of five, noting that the concert gradually became slimmer but had no synchronized dance moves unlike the MDNA Tour. Carvalho was also impressed with the stage setting and the long catwalk.

Will Hodgkinson of The Times reviewed the show at The O 2 in London, and awarded it a five star rating. He commented that "Madonna goes in and out of fashion but one remains constant: her persistence... [She] returns to O 2 for a concert proving that there is nothing like a near-death experience to refresh the Queen of Pop. "Another five-star rating came from Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph who noticed that the loudest cheers of the audience came when Madonna managed to escape from her cloak during" Living for Love ", which she referred to fell at the Brit Awards in 2015. McCormick described the concert as "a stunning, multimedia melange of multimedia and light, with baffling eyes and minds consisting of medieval fantasy rappers, martial arts fighting geisha, pole dance nymphs, performance simulations sex." Peter Robinson of The Guardian rated him four of the five stars who praised "Ikon" as "the perfect opening number". He observed that most of the "click signatures appear in updated styles... but when Madonna gives a refreshing and refreshing version of 'Deeper and Deeper', this is the highlight of the night." Nick Levine of NME believes that "too much" from songs from Rebel Heart can be striving hard from [Madonna] ", but" on stage she is still working harder and gives more sensation than his younger counterparts.) Reviewing the BBC event, Mark Savage notes that his strongest moment came when Madonna performed alone on stage.

Asia and Oceania

Lauren James of the South China Morning Post found the show as a "rigorous choreographer," adding that "Hong Kong must finally enjoy the Madonna's light, but it's too much fun to be a one-night stand." Reviewing the concert in Bangkok, Manta Klangboonkrong from AsiaOne commented: "Madonna gave us what is clearly one of the most sensational concerts ever adorned in Bangkok, she's doing a great job as a versatile dancer, singer and entertainer." Jojo Panaligan of Manila Bulletin stated that Madonna's disrespectful attitude was displayed in the show at the Mall of Asia Arena, and observed that the audience reacted positively. Reviewing the show at Rod Laver Arena Sydney, Michael Lallo from The Sydney Morning Herald awarded a four and a half concert of five stars. He feels that from the Hairy Ambition Tour to the Rebel Heart Tour, Madonna has "reaffirmed herself... Everything is polished up to an inch from her life - which makes it so incredible".

Controversy

The controversy surrounding the Rebel Heart Tour revolves around the end of the show, the illegal use of state flags and ticket errors. His performance in Manchester drew great criticism from fans, who scoffed at him for a late arrival. Madonna responded to the audience during the show, stating that it was due to technical difficulties. During his first concerts in Hong Kong and Taipei, Madonna was two and a half hours late; the previous delay caused a small protest outside the show. Another late event occurred for a show in Brisbane.

Madonna's Instagram post about her arrival in Taiwan caused controversy, when it was noted that the singer had used the old badge of Taiwan's Kuomintang political party (related to the White Terror incident), not the actual national symbol. During the show, Madonna wore a Taiwanese flag today before confessing her love for Taiwan and China. In the Philippines, Madonna wore a state flag as part of the encore segment. Because the use of the country's flag as a "costume or uniform" was banned in 1998 by federal law, Madonna faced threats from the Philippine government for "disrespecting" the flag, as well as possible restrictions from the territory.

During the Madonna show on March 5-6, 2016 in New Zealand, some participants were refused entry to the show because their tickets were invalid. About 20 people, who bought their tickets through the Queen of Tickets website, were denied entry, while others were asked to make separate print tickets in customer service booths. According to Stuff.co.nz, Ticketmaster has changed the seating plans of those places without contacting the Queen of Tickets website; as a result they have to return the money of the people who have brought the tickets from them. At the end of Madonna's second show in Brisbane, the singer accidentally exposed the breast of a 17-year-old woman named Josephine Georgiou on stage by pulling her top. The singer jokingly reacted: "Oh sorry, sexual harassment". This caused controversy when the general public took to social media to label the incident as a sexual assault. Georgiou defended the singer by stating it was "the best time of my life".
