Los Angeles Stadium in Hollywood Park , also referred to as City Stadium Stadium , is an open stadium and entertainment complex area under construction in Inglewood, California, United States. Formerly the site of Park Racetrack Hollywood, about three miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport, and is located just south of the Forum.

Planned to open in 2020, the stadium will serve as home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). It is also scheduled to host the Super Bowl LVI in February 2022 and the National Playoff College Football Championship in January 2023. During the Summer Olympics 2028, the stadium is expected to host the opening ceremony and football. Archery will be held in the field outside the stadium.

Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park will be the third stadium since the AFL-NFL merger to be shared by two NFL teams. The MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is home to the New York Giants and New York Jets, like its predecessor, the Giants Stadium. This will be the third facility in the Los Angeles area to host some teams from the same league as the Staples Center is home to both the National Basketball Association (NBA) team of the city, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers and Stubhub Center who for a time being masters the home of both Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA of Major League Soccer.

The stadium is a component of the City Revitalization Civilization Initiative , the title of development work on the site of the former Park Racetrack Hollywood. Hollywood Park Casino opened in 2016, becoming the first company to open on the property on 21 October.

History

Hollywood Park Racing Arena

The site of the previous stadium Hollywood Park , then sold and referred to as Betfair Hollywood Park , which is a pure-blooded race course from 1938 until closed for racing and training in December 2013. Casino stays open, contains a poker card room. Most of the complex was destroyed in 2014 to make way for new construction with the rest destroyed by the end of 2016 after the new Hollywood Park Casino opened. The stadium project is currently not the first stadium proposed for the site. The site was almost home to the NFL stadium two decades earlier. In May 1995 after the departure of Rams for St. Louis, the National Football League team was approved by a 27-1 vote with two abstentions, a resolution supporting plans to build a privately-funded $ 200 million stadium at Hollywood Park's property for Los Angeles Raiders. Al Davis, who at the time the Raiders owner refused and refused a deal on the stipulation that he should receive a second team at the stadium.

2014: Location Discussion

On January 31, 2014, Los Angeles Times reported that Stan Kroenke, the owner of St. Louis Rams bought a plot of 60 acres north of the Hollywood Park site in an area that has been studied by the National Football League in the past and at one point trying to buy. This sparked direct speculation as to what Kroenke's intentions for the site were: originally planned to be Walmart Supercenter; However, by 2014, much of the speculation is centered around the site as a stadium site or training facility for Rams. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated that Kroenke told the league the purchase. As the owner of the NFL, any purchase of land where a potential stadium can be built should be disclosed to the league. Speculation about the Rams that returned to their homes for nearly fifty years has been discussed when Kroenke was one of the finalists in the bid for ownership in the Los Angeles Dodgers, but speculation increased when the news ruled that Rams owners had a possible stadium site on hand.

2015

Almost a year passed without a word from Kroenke about his intention to land, because he failed to speak in St. John's media. Louis, or the Hollywood Land Company, about what the site can use. However, there is speculation about the future of the Rams franchise until it is reported that the National Football League will not allow franchise relocation for the 2015 season.

Construction and design

On January 5, 2015, Stokbridge Capital owner of Hollywood Park Land Company announced that it has partnered with Kroenke Sports & amp; Entertainment to add a 60-acre northern package to the rest of the development project and build a 70,240-seat seating stadium designed for the NFL. The project will include stadiums of up to 100,240 seats (including stand-only-chamber seats) and entertainment venues up to 6,000 seats while reconfiguring previously approved Hollywood Park plans for up to 900,000 square feet of retail, 800,000 square feet of office space, 2,500 housing units and new condominiums, luxury hotels with 300 rooms and 25 hectares of public parks, playgrounds, open spaces, lakes and pedestrians, bicycles and public transport access. The stadium will be ready by 2019. On February 24, 2015, the Inglewood City Council approved stadium plans and initiatives with construction at the stadium planned to begin in December 2015.

On February 24, 2015, Inglewood City Council approved a unanimous 5-0 plan to combine 60 acres of land with the construction of a larger Hollywood Park and rezone area to include sports and entertainment capabilities. This basically paves the way for developers to begin construction on the premises as planned in December 2015.

It was also reported, in early February 2015, that "the earth is being moved" and the site is being assessed for preparation for construction to begin later this year.

â € <â € <2016

The NFL approved the Inglewood proposal and relocated the Rams back to Los Angeles, 30-2, on 12 January 2016. On July 14, 2016, it was announced that Turner Construction and AECOM would oversee the construction of the stadium.

On October 19, 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) determined that the LB 44 110 foot rotary drill rig would not compromise air navigation, so it approved the first of several heavy equipment to be used during construction. The stadium design has been reviewed by the FAA for over a year due to concerns about how the structure will interact with radar at the nearby Los Angeles International Airport. On December 16, 2016, it was reported in the Sports Business Journal that the FAA has refused to issue permission for the crane needed to build the structure. "We will not evaluate each tow application until our concerns with the whole project are completed," said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. The FAA has previously recommended building stadiums on other sites because of the risks posed to LAX - echoing concerns raised by former US Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge.

The Rams held an innovative construction ceremony at the future Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park site on November 17, 2016. The ceremony featured NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Rams owner, Stan Kroenke.

On December 23, 2016, the FAA approved a large crane to build the stadium.

2017

Announced on May 18, 2017, that due to record rainfall in the area leading to the construction of holdups, completion of the stadium and opening will be delayed until the NFL 2020 season.

On August 8, 2017, the LA Stadium Premiere Center in Playa Vista, California opened as a place for seasoned buyers and season ticket holders to be able to see the stadium. The center contains a massive replica of the stadium that will include: ribbons-like high definition jumbotron LEDs and LED ribbons that go from field to ceiling, giving potential buyers a preview of what they can expect when the stadium is open.

2018

The NFL announced that NFL Media will add 200,000 square feet of space to the LA Stadium campus and move around 2021 from Culver City. In addition to office space and studios, the new facility will also feature NFL Media's first studio studio and outdoor space to host live audiences.

Funding

The stadium is being built privately, but developers are looking for significant tax cuts from Inglewood.

The cost of the stadium project was initially estimated at about $ 2.66 billion at the commencement of construction. However, the internal league document produced by the NFL in March 2018 indicates the need to raise the debt ceiling for the facility for a total of $ 4.963 billion, making it one of the most expensive places ever built. The owner of the team is expected to select and approve this new debt ceiling at a meeting in the same month.

Tenants and events

Los Angeles Rams has committed to moving to the stadium, as NFL approval for their relocation was obtained on January 12, 2016. The agreement also gave San Diego Chargers the first option to move to Los Angeles and share the stadium with Rams, conditioned on the lease agreements negotiated between the two teams. The choice will expire on January 15, 2017, at which time the Oakland Raiders will get the same option.

On January 29, 2016, Rams and Chargers finally reached an agreement to share the stadium. The Chargers will donate a $ 200 million stadium loan from the NFL and a private seat license fee for the construction fee and will pay $ 1 per year in rent to the Rams. On the same day, Chargers chairman-CEO Dean Spanos announced the team will remain in San Diego for the 2016 NFL season, while continuing to work with local authorities in the new stadium. Measure C (stadium Chargers proposal) does not receive the required number of votes required for the trip.

On January 12, 2017, Chargers executed their options and announced plans to move to Los Angeles for the 2017 season, making Chargers the second tenant at the stadium and returning them to the market where they played their inaugural season in 1960.

When the Rams and Chargers move into the stadium, projected for August 2020, it will mark the return of major professional sports to Inglewood for the first time since the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings left The Forum for Staples Center in May 1999.

2028 Summer Olympics

The Hollywood Park Stadium is expected to host a football match during the Summer Olympics in 2028. The Los Angeles organizers have also proposed that the stadium host the Games ceremony with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in a two-place format.

More events

In addition to the Rams and Chargers game, the stadium will host the Super Bowl LVI in 2022. Originally was to host the Super Bowl LV in 2021, but the above-mentioned construction delays have pushed back the Super Bowl hosting duties for one year (NFL owners voted to move Super Bowl LV to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida).

The stadium also allows other potential NFL opportunities in the complex such as NFL retail stores, NFL Network studios, NFL Honours ceremonies, NFL Films premiere, other NFL-themed events, West Coast wings from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and NFL-themed hotels.

On November 1, 2017, it was announced that the stadium would host the Playoff 2023 College Football National Championship.

The stadium could serve as a FIFA World Cup venue if the FIFA World Cup bid Canada-Mexico-United States 2026 succeeds.

There will also be a team shop for Chargers and Rams. The first new company to open service on this site is the new and modern Entertainment Park Casino, which opens on October 21, 2016.

NFL Media Campus

Campus will be the new home of NFL Media which is currently based in Culver City, CA. The NFL will develop an area of 200,000 square feet for home operations for hundreds of employees working for NFL.com, NFL and NZL RedZone applications. It will also be the new site for the NFL Network headquarters. In addition to office space and studios, this facility will also feature NFL Media's first outdoor studio and space for holding audiences in the studio. The new NFL Media studio campus will open in summer of 2021.

Beats competitor proposals

The plans of the Hollywood Park stadium project compete directly with competitor proposals. On February 19, 2015, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers announced plans for a privately-funded $ 1.85 billion stadium to be built by both teams in Carson, California if they will move to the Los Angeles market. Both teams stated that they will continue to try to build stadiums in their respective cities.

On April 21, 2015, the Carson City Council passed the option to place the stadium on a public vote and approved the plan 3-0. The NFL approved the relocation of the Rams on January 12, 2016, with 30 of the 32 owners choosing their approval to be relocated, effectively ending Carson's proposal.
