SeaWorld is the United States chain for marine mammal parks, oceanariums, animal playgrounds and rehabilitation centers owned by SeaWorld Entertainment (one park will be owned and operated by Miral under license). The gardens feature killer whales, sea lions, and dolphin shows and zoological exhibits featuring a variety of other marine animals. There are operations located in the United States in Orlando, Florida; San Diego, California; San Antonio, Texas; then outside the United States such as Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and formerly Aurora, Ohio. On March 5, 2007, SeaWorld Orlando announced the addition of Aquatica water park to its adventure park, which includes SeaWorld and Discovery Cove.

The SeaWorld Park also features exciting rides, including roller coasters such as Kraken and Manta at SeaWorld Orlando and Steel Eel and The Great White at SeaWorld San Antonio. The trip to Atlantis, a combination of roller coasters and spacecraft, can be found in all three parks. The parks are owned by Busch Entertainment Corp, the family entertainment division of Anheuser-Busch, famous for brewing beer. In 2009, Busch Entertainment was sold to Blackstone Group and later renamed to SeaWorld Entertainment. In 2013, Blackstone sold 37% of SeaWorld Entertainment in its initial public offering, and sold the remaining 21% to Zhonghong Zhuoye in 2017.

The collection of marine mammals in the park has been the subject of much public debate over the years. The 2013 documentary Blackfish , was produced after Orlando SeaWorld trainer was killed by one of the park orchas with a history of unpredictable and violent behavior, increasing surveillance and has caused a decline in the company's presence, profits, and stock prices. This is a major theme park competitor for Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Walt Disney Parks & amp; Resorts, and Universal Parks & amp; Resorts.

By 2016, SeaWorld announced that it would end the Orca breeding program in their park, and eventually stop their overall whale-killer performances (due to California state laws prohibiting the event using orcas) beginning in San Diego. It was announced later in the same year, that SeaWorld will be building their first park without killer whales and outside the United States in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Histori

SeaWorld was founded in 1964 by Milton C. Shedd, Ken Norris, David Demott, and George Millay. The four UCLA graduates initially set out to build underwater restaurants and marine life shows. When the concept of underwater restaurants was deemed inappropriate, they canceled the plan and decided to build the park instead, and SeaWorld San Diego opened on 21 March 1964. With only a few dolphins, sea lions, 6 attractions and 22 acres (89,000 m 2 ), the park proved successful and more than 400,000 guests visited in the first 12 months.

After considering other locations in the midwest, including the Lake Milton/Newton Falls area west of Youngstown, Ohio, it was decided that Aurora, Ohio would be the new home of SeaWorld. The Aurora site is about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Lake Milton site, and 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Cleveland. At this time the founders of the company have captured several species of animals, including killer whales brought to new facilities. The harsh winter climate allows the park to open only from mid-May to mid-September.

Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida opened towards the end of the second seasons of SeaWorld Ohio operations. Disney's success in Orlando provides an already popular location among tourists. SeaWorld Orlando opened in 1973.

Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. (HBJ) bought the company in 1976 and 12 years later they started a business in Texas. In 1988, SeaWorld San Antonio opened just a few miles outside of San Antonio. Growth has pushed the city out, and now SeaWorld San Antonio is located in the Westover Hills community in West San Antonio. The park is open year-round like the sister parks of California and Florida in 1988 and 1989, then goes to seasonal schedules. The stress and financial resources needed to build and maintain sophisticated marine mammal facilities in the late 1980s eventually hurt the company. HBJ, whose primary focus is on producing school books, is needed to reduce its assets to avoid bankruptcy.

Anheuser-Busch Company made an offer to buy a SeaWorld park. HBJ also owns and operates two other parks, Cypress Gardens and Boardwalk and Baseball, and for fear of not being able to find buyers for the other two parks, HBJ refuses to sell the park individually. Despite the lengthy negotiations, Anheuser-Busch bought all six parks in 1989: SeaWorld in San Diego, Aurora, Orlando and San Antonio as well as Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven and Boardwalk and Baseball in Haines City. As soon as the sale was completed, Busch sold Cypress Gardens to park management and closed the Boardwalk and Baseball. Anheuser-Busch returned millions of dollars to the park to revive and extend their longevity. SeaWorld is accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA).

In 2009, Busch Entertainment was sold to Blackstone Group and later renamed to SeaWorld Entertainment. In 2013 Blackstone sold 37% of Entertainment in an Initial Public Offering.

By 2016, SeaWorld claims to have sent its employees to take part as activists to spy on PETA animal rights organizations. After an investigation by an outside law firm, the SeaWorld Board of Directors directs management to end the practice.

SeaWorld Ohio Sales, rebirth, and final transition

In February 2001, Anheuser-Busch sold the Ohio SeaWorld park to Six Flags, Inc., operator from neighboring "Six Flags Ohio" (Lake Geauga until late 1999, returning to the name "Lake Geauga" in 2004). After the completion of the sale, the two parks were combined in the spring of 2001 as the so-called "mega-park" "Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure", which boast "Three parks in one" uniqueness: water parks, amusement parks and wildlife parks - all included in one admission price. The SeaWorld executive replied that their park has been sold because of the short season of the zoo, because of the winter months in Northeastern Ohio, and also because they can not get the right to build a roller coaster like any other SeaWorld property has been able to.

In March 2004, Six Flags, Inc., announced that it has sold "Six Flags Worlds of Adventure" to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, the operator of Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Fair takes the park back to its original "Geauga Lake" name, which has a history dating back to 1888. Since the Six Flags company retains animal ownership, the majority of the park's zoo, including all animal exhibits and stadiums, is vacated or fenced for the 2004 season.

After waiting for almost a season, the Cedar Fair company announced its plans for the non-operational side of SeaWorld Ohio/Six Flags Worlds of Adventure-Wildlife Side before. The whole piece of land will be a huge water park, named "The Wildwater Kingdom", opened in two phases, with the first phase in 2005, followed by a second phase in 2006. This decision marks the end of the marine life park permanently..

All stadiums and animal buildings are subsequently torn down or converted into other places. Some of the SeaWorld properties remain intact, though hidden or altered. The remains include the former sea and sea lion territory, Ski Stadium (for use in Lumberjack performances in 2006), Aquarium (used for unknown purposes), and two home cinemas/simulators, after 3D/4D movie housing. Ski Stadium was removed outside the 2008 season to make way for "Coconut Cove", the refresher/observation station. All this, except the Wildwater Kingdom, was closed in 2007. By 2016, Wildwater Kingdom, on the SeaWorld side of Ohio, announced that they will not open after the 2016 season.

Orcas

The main attraction of SeaWorld is the killer's whale, some of which are housed in a tank of 5.8 million gallons (equivalent to nine Olympic-size swimming pools) each known as the Shamu Stadium. Shamu is the first killer whale name brought to SeaWorld San Diego in the 1960s from the Seattle Marine Aquarium. 'Shamu' is now used as the stage name for a killer whale in a show at SeaWorld park. Currently, SeaWorld has 22 killer whales in its three parks.

Ten killer whales live at SeaWorld San Diego: Corky, Ulises, Orchid, Nakai, Ikaika, Kalia, Keet, Shouka, Makani, and Amaya.

  • Six killer whales live at SeaWorld Orlando: Makaio, Malia, Kayla, Trua, Katina, and Nalani
  • Five killer whales live at SeaWorld San Antonio: Kyuquot, Takara, Sakari, Tuar and Kamea.
  • Organizations such as the World Animal Protection and the Pope and Dolphin Conservation Society campaign against dolphin and killer whales; SeaWorld, which houses most of the world's captive killer whales, is quoted for its role.

The capture of killer whales is a topic of widespread debate. With regard to the anatomy of killer whales, the collapsing dorsal fin of a male whale that many people recognize has an unknown cause. The collapsed dorsal fin has occurred in the wild. Some argue that aggression among captive killer whales is common, while others claim that this also happens in the wild. In August 1989, a dominant female killer whale, Kandu V, tried to lure newcomer whales, Corky II, with his mouth during live performances, and banged his head against the wall. Kandu V broke his jaw that broke the artery and then died bleeding. In November 2006, a dominant female killer whale, Kasatka, repeatedly dragged inexperienced coach, Ken Peters, to the bottom of the stadium pool during the show after hearing his son crying for him in the back pool. In February 2010, an experienced female trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, Dawn Brancheau, was killed by the Tasmanian killer whale shortly after the show at Shamu Stadium. The pope has been linked to the deaths of two people before. In May 2012, administrative law judge Ken Welsch upheld two Occupational Safety and Health citations after Dawn Brancheau's death, including one directly related to his death, and fined the company a total of $ 12,000. Coaches are prohibited from close contact with the pope. In April 2014, the US Court of Appeal for the District of Columbia rejected an appeal by SeaWorld. On December 22, 2015, the 18-year-old Orca SeaWorld, Unna, died at SeaWorld Park in San Antonio, Texas.

    Blackfish movie

In 2013, SeaWorld's treatment of killer whales in captivity was the basis of the film Blackfish , documenting the history of Tilikum, the killer whale captured by SeaLand of the Pacific, then transported to SeaWorld Orlando who had been involved in three deaths person. In the aftermath of the movie release, Martina McBride, 38 Special, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Heart, Barenaked Ladies, Trisha Yearwood, and Willie Nelson canceled a concert schedule at the SeaWorld park. SeaWorld questioned the accuracy of the film, calling it "propaganda" and "emotionally manipulative". It has spent $ 15 million on an ad campaign against the allegations and emphasized its contribution to the study of whales and their conservation.

In August 2014, SeaWorld announced its plan to build a new killer whale tank that is almost twice that of the existing to provide more space for its whales, which is scheduled for completion by 2018. The company stated that the move did not respond to documentary releases. > Blackfish . Wild whale killers can travel up to 160 kilometers (100 miles) a day, and critics say the animals are too big and smart to fit for captivity. PETA, which opposes whales held in captivity, has proposed the amusement park operator to base its whales on beachside shelters. The company also pledged $ 10 million in funds suitable for killer whale research. Plans to increase tank size in San Diego were suspended in October 2015 after the Coastal Commission of California ruled that the work could only work if they forbid breeding which would eventually lead to the end of the killer whale show in the park.. On March 17, 2016, SeaWorld announced the end of their breeding program, which marked the last generation of orcas in captivity in their care, though Takara was still pregnant at the time. The orca theater show will end at SeaWorld San Diego in 2017 and in Orlando and San Antonio in 2019.

In November 2014, SeaWorld announced that its presence in the park had dropped 5.2% from a year earlier and earnings had dropped 28% over the quarter. As of November 2014, the company's shares fell 50% from a year earlier. From 2014 to 2015, net income in the second quarter fell 84% from $ 37.4 million to $ 5.8 million, while revenues fell from $ 405 million to $ 392 million.

    Animal rescue and rehabilitation program

SeaWorld operates its conservation program in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the state agencies; The rescue and rehabilitation program was developed to comply with the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Since the establishment of the SeaWorld Park & amp; Entertainment has saved or helped more than 29,000 animals, including sick, orphaned or abandoned and wounded manatees, dolphins, pilot whales, turtles and birds. As part of an animal rehabilitation program, SeaWorld has claimed the first birth of a killer whale in captivity, the first birth of marine mammals through artificial insemination, and the first hatching of a captive green turtle. While recognizing the value of these programs, animal rights advocates and advocates question the balance of conservation and education of SeaWorld in addition to the commercial activities of themed gardens. In 1998, SeaWorld, with the help of the US Coast Guard, released a gray whale J.J. after the whale was rehabilitated at SeaWorld San Diego for 14 months.

Groups concerned with the health and safety of the SeaWorld whale population have asked that the animals be released. SeaWorld has defended their decision to keep animals by citing their inability to survive in the wild after years of captivity.

Response to encourage alleged hunting fishing

In response to claims made at SeaWorld and other marine parks by The Cove film that accused them of getting dolphins taken in a drive hunt, SeaWorld spokesman Fred Jacobs stated that, "We think we are unjustly criticized for something we are fighting against. "It should be noted that it is illegal to bring hunting animals to the United States. He added that, "SeaWorld is against the documented dolphin hunting at The Cove." We do not buy any animals from this hunt More than 80 percent of marine mammals in our care are born in our garden. collecting dolphins from the wild in decades. "Since 1993 no permits have been issued for facilities in the United States to import dolphins acquired through hunting methods. Marilee Menard, executive director of the Parks Alliance and Mammal Marine Aquarium, also stated that she believes filmmakers are "misrepresenting that the majority of zoos and aquariums with dolphins around the world are taking these animals."
