Lakeside Shopping Center , branded as Intu Lakeside , is a large outdoor shopping center located in West Thurrock, in the Thurrock district of Essex, just outside the eastern border. from London Raya. It was built on the site of a former limestone mine. The first tenants moved into the compound in 1988 and completed in 1990, opened on October 25 of that year by Princess Alexandra, the Honorable, Ogilvy, Marcus Bradford, and Angus Ogilvy.
The shopping center, next to the retail park, forms one of the largest shopping areas in a single location in Europe, with nearly 2,600,000 square feet (240,000 m 2 ) retail space on the 200 acre site (0.81 km 2 ). The Chaffford Hundred community has grown in the center east since its opening. Its main competitor is the Bluewater Shopping Center in Greenhithe, Kent, just across the River Thames.
The center was renamed "Lakeside intuition" in 2013 after the replacement of the main Group Capital Expenditure Center as "intu plc property".

The shopping center is the 11th largest in the UK with 1,434,000 sqÃ, ft (133,200 m 2 ) available as retail floor - MetroCentre in Gateshead, after expansion in 2004, is the largest. There are over 250 stores (including Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser, Debenhams and Primark store outlets), 50 cafes and restaurants, and a 26-acre lake (110,000 m 2 ) named Alexandra Lake with complex PADI certified dive school. Intu Lakeside has an average of 500,000 visitors per week.
It is open on weekdays from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 9 pm, and Sundays from 11:00 am to 5 pm. The central parking lot has a capacity for 13,000 cars.

Transport connections
The center has a direct connection to Chafford Hundred train station where the c2c train drove to London Fenchurch Street via Upminster and West Ham or east to Southend Central via Grays and Stanford-le-Hope.
The center is connected to the M25 highway which is the outer ring road of London that runs south towards Dartford and Gatwick and North towards Enfield, Watford and Heathrow. As well as the M25 the center is connected to the A13 road connecting the center and east of London to Basildon and Southend-on-Sea.
It connects to the transport network for London buses by 370 to Romford and 372 to Hornchurch with other operators such as Ensignbus to the surrounding Thurrock area and First 100 routes to Basildon and Chelmsford. The X80 route operated by Ensignbus provides links to Bluewater across Dartford Crossing.
New developments
To ensure the center maintains its competition with the newer (and what some consider to be Bluewater's 'top class' shopping center, located just above the Thames River in Greenhithe, Lakeside has recently undergone major improvements at a cost of à , £ 30 million This includes new Italian porcelain flooring, new lighting, new ceilings, and a new glass roof that allows far more natural light into the shopping center.Now there is also a new elevator, faster, and four more escalators , along with the automatic entrance.The restoration also encouraged the repair of many stores so that they complemented the new environment.In September 2005, Next opened 18,600 sq ft (1,730 m 2 ) extension to his shop.
The Lakeside Pavilion, a market area adjacent to the main shopping center via a covered bridge, closed in 2006 for refurbishment, reopening in June 2007 as 'The Boardwalk'.
Boardwalk provides an additional 59,000 sqÃ, ft (5,500 m 2 ). retail space for eleven new restaurants along with more retail and recreation space, as well as a 10 meter sidewalk, offering an external seating overlooking Lake Alexandra. The bar and boat of the Old Orleans restaurant are also refurbished and reopened on the same day, with new features including a rooftop bar.
Vue cinema forms part of the old Lakeside Pavilion, with a seven-screen cinema. It closed on 11 January 2007 for renewal, and reopened on Friday 15 June 2007; the restoration produces nine sophisticated screens with stadium seating. 'Gold Class', a premium screen that places luxury seats, has since been abandoned for the sake of the VIP seating section on every screen. The 'Evolution Screen', with the combination of a gigant bean bag chair between the VIP seats, is the first of its kind in England.
Apple opened its tenth British shop at Lakeside Shopping Center.
& Amp; Spencer, one of four docked stores, applied for a permit in July 2008 to allow for the construction of a new three-storey 23,970 sq ft (2,230 m 2 ) extension into its store, in addition to extensive improvements to the store layout and customer facilities. This application was approved at the end of October 2008 although no construction has been done in July 2011.
Supergroup, Cult owner and Superdry brand opened its largest storefront in the center in July 2010, in a unit previously occupied by Woolworths. Ed's Easy Diner also opened their fifth restaurant in the central food court in July 2010.
Taco Bell re-entered the UK market in June 2010 with the opening of its first store at Lakeside Interstate.
In 2011, the US fashion giant Forever 21 opened a 35,000 square foot main store in Lakeside interstate, in a three-story unit. In July 2016 the store was closed.
Intu Lakeside was granted permission in 2012 to extend to cover 30-40 new stores, a new bridge across Lake Alexandra to the Lakeside Retail Park, a new recreation area, a Travelodge hotel with a new 80 bed facing the river and a new transportation center where the bridge the current railway station is to allow for easier exchange. The new 225,000 sq ft recreation area will open in late 2018 and will include a branded entertainment center Nickelodeon.
